Breathing query.

Post by wanderinstar »

With my engine running I removed the oil filler cap to listen to tappets, trying to trace a noise, and the engine revs reduced. Anyone know why?

It is then able to draw air in through the cap - then through the breather tube you have connected to the carb - so the mixture goes weak. Shows your engine is in fair condition - otherwise clouds of oil fume would come out the cap when you take it off!

When it blows out of the filler cap hole nearly as much as it blows out of the exhaust - it's time to find another engine for 'just in case'
(Thinking of someone on here - you might know who you are ;-) )
