Heater not working

Hi - I picked up my "new" traveller today

. It ran well and most things work but the heater does not

. Any suggestions what it might be and what I might need to do?.

Does it not blow, or just not heat?

Not blowing could be dirty connections, dirty switch, sticking motor or blown fuse, but from what I recall you'd notice a blown fuse as it does other things too!

I think the live is a (darker) green wire that goes from the back of the voltage stabiliser to a bullet connector where it meets a white wire that goes into the heater. Two wires go into the "flappy" area, into and out of the switch. Test for power all the way to the heater, then try pullig the wires off the switch and shorting them together to see if it was that. Be warned it's a fiddly job getting the wires off and on in there if you have anything like human shaped hands!

If the windscreen wipers/flashers work then it is not the fuse. The wires to
the motor itself can be seen on the left hand side of the heater ( viewed from
the drivers seat) and they are push on Lucar connectors so it is easy to check
for voltage there when the heater switch is ON.

Sorry - I should have been more explicit...
It doesnt blow, and therefor not sure if it heats (as nothing is coming out).
The wipers and flashers are working, I'll have a look for the connecting wires tomorrow.

I spent quite some time swearing at a heater only to find that it was actually the switch had given up through lack of use. I can only assume a fine layer of corrossion built up on the contacts, because half an hour of flicking it to and fro after soaking it with Plusgas got it working again.

Might be worth bearing in mind if the car or heater's been out of use for a very long time

A tip for any switches which are dodgy,including volume controls etc is to
spray WD40 into it as this is where WD40 comes into its own. It cleans the
contacts and internal mechanisms WITHOUT causing a short but it is not a
penetrating fluid so has to be squirted in the right place in order to get inside.
Regarding your heater just feel the pipes in the engine bay, they should both
be hot if the control valve is open.

Servisol switch cleaning lubricant is even better as it's designed for the job!

I had a similar problem, the heater fan not working. All that was wrong was that a connector had pulled off the switch! Awkward to get at mind you... as noted by PackedUp. I did consider taking it to a gynie clinic for them to have a go......
