rubber sump gasket

Don't know if they still do them but both myself & Kate have had them from Birmingham in the last couple of years...

The ESM ones are rubber aren't they - or am I losing my marbles? The ones that I have seem to be.

I think the gasket kits with the rubber seals were 'Payen'.

Later - My mistake - it's a thick, black cardlike gasket material.With my recent experiences of rubber, I don't think I'd want to be fitting more of the stuff

Sump flange gaskets are not rubber! Some of the later end seals may be rubber - they used to be compressed cork.

We know. A previous thread came to the conclusion that rubber ones were better, but more difficult to get hold of. That's probably why they're beibg discussed.

We are not on about the flange gaskets, just the end seals. The 1098s were cork and the 1275s (well some of them) rubber.

Aye; I did; they were vastly better than the hopelessy cruddy cork ones and they came from Birmingham. They were indeed made by Payen, but the only set they had was a 'complete engine gasket set' so I now have *all* the gaskets for a 1275 (except the sump ones which I've used). This is a shame, because I'm meant to pick up the 1275 from packedup to rebuild... and so will need some sump gaskets (as well as the rest). Meh.

Actually - the cork ones - when properly installed - work very well indeed ! However - I do have some square section silicone rubber which works well too.
