Axle width
Hi, I am gathering parts for my moggy project that I plan to start soon, I have been offered a Cortina axle, And just wondered if somebody could tell me the width of the standard Moggy one, so i can see if the cortina axle is going to be too wide.
Thanks
Thanks

Bear in mind that you need tomaintain clearance to the inner arches, and wider wheels will reduce it further! The minor track is 50 1/4 ", the Cortina Mk 1 49 1/2". So, looks like it'll fit in, but you'll have to use wider wheels to fill the 3/4" gap
A common work-around is to use Peugeot wheels as they have lower offset, therefore more clerarance to the inner arches (I think that is what Cam did)
Another option would be Capri axle - there are a few variants up to 53" (I think)

where to break down next?

Go for the Escort Mk11 axle, you can fit either Peugeot 1.9 GTI alloys or most Peugeot steel wheels from the 309 onwards, Saab 9000 alloys will also fit, The Ford range of alloys and none GTI Peugeot ones have too great an offset top be of any use and I would not recommend the 20mm spacers that these would require. You will need to fit longer studs if going for alloys. The Escort axle is excellent for both strength of components and its long option list of diff ratio's. You will need to fit new axle perches and plates along with U bolts and handbrake cables. You also have the option of fitting RS2000 half shafts which will offer good center location for your alloys, rather than relying on the studs to center the wheels. The standard 8" drums can be uprated to 9" or disc brake set up. If you are interested I can send you pics of our latest disc braked 4 link plus Watts linkage kit.

Many thanks

Could you post a pic up here of the set up! I'm about to do mine, but if there is a bolt in solution....it will save me months of messing about! I used escort parts last time and cut the floor for the boxes.
