Apparently, grease in the steering rack makes the steering much stiffer when the weather is cold, hence oil being specified. I use one of the old fashioned push type Tecalemit grease guns that I bought on ebay for a fiver. I keep this one exclusively for the oil, saves messing about emptying out grease! It fits perfectly, being only 8 1/2" long.
