many thanks guys, its been a pleasure. Moggies gone
Hi there guys, Just a quick note to thank everyone whom has helped me on here with my general queries and questions and the patience shown to someone new to the World Of The Moggy. All the owners I've met and corrosponded with have had small egos and big hearts, a very friendly club indeed, but then...

dizzy points plate return spring....mines broken!
My Moggies had a cruise misfire that was so bad it screamed ' ignition system '. ....so I had a little poke under my dizzy cap and found the points plate has a broken return spring. I'm thinking this return spring must be unique to the 1098 dizzy, even may by year I'm guessing? I suppose any moggy 1...

Re: Changing the distributor
I understand the OP confusion....as Vicky Pollard would say. Yes.....the dizzy shaft can only fit one way... but... No ...the dizzies 'outside' can be twisted so that lead number one could be 90' or 180' degrees out. ....its difficult to put into words...a eureka moment will happen and it all drops ...

Starting handle how to?
I've just noticed my Moggy has a hole in the front bumper for a starting handle....only the second car I've ever owned with the this feature, the first being a 2CV.
Is it just a case of ignition on, choke out, (handbrake on/in neutral!) and spin away, or is there some witchcraft needed?
cheers guys

Re: Were Gold/Silver engines remanufactured by BMC/BL et al
Gold Seal being a 'drop in' engine, a full recon' (with starter, dizzy and alternator) and Silver Seal a short engine only no acilleries being just the block? But somewhere my poor memory tells me that engines that were no longer in production were only ever Silver Seal with a higher proportion of u...

Were Gold/Silver engines remanufactured by BMC/BL et al
Or put out to sub contract?
If BMC/BL did them where did they do them.....one would of thought at the original engine factory....which then makes me think were the engines made in one factory or built from products from multiple factories?

Just been looking at the photos of the block face I took....didn't notice them before, but yes the block is marked on the nearside outside of the studs, I missed them the first time of looking. 8) ....the numbers are three grade 2's and yes one grade 3! Re: carb to manifold nut size..the aliens have abducted mine.
Have you got the spring and washer plate in the filter bowl? Did you change the rubber seal? I normally do not change the seal and have no leaks. It is a brass nut so no use looking for it with a magnet Used the old seals as the light was fading....my fault. Yes spring and the other parts all there...
