Re: It Won't Start
Just to bring things up to date. The petrol pump points were given a once over lightly with a bit of emery, stuck it back in the car, turned the key, series of rapid clicks, pulled the stater and....... geranium! We have lift-off! Thanks to everyone for the advice. To be on the safe side I have orde...

Electronic Fuel Pump
Having had a problem with my car not starting due to pitted points (now sorted), I have been thinking of fitting a new fuel pump. Looking at ESM's web site I see that electronic SU fuel pumps are now available. Does anyone have any experience of these? Presumably no points, they look identical to th...

Re: It Won't Start
I have a spare fuel pump - would it be ok to fit that? It is smaller than pump no 1. The makers name is HARDI, it has no filter, nor a provision for an earth lead - should I fit an earth lead?
Thank you for your help.

Re: It Won't Start
Clean the points!
Naive question - how do I do that? Just slip an emery board between the pionts and work it backwards and forwards a few times?
Is there a blow up view of the points anywhere?

Re: It Won't Start
UPDATE. Started the car again this morning, it ran normally for 20-30 seconds and then stopped. I took the top off the float chamber(?) and it was empty. I turned the ignition on while the top was off and just got a couple of half-hearted clicks. Replaced the top and turned the ignition on and there...

Re: It Won't Start
I will try it again later today. The car is not kept at home and I have no tools where it is kept. The various lights were coming on and the fuel pump was clicking normally. I will go down later with some tools and see how I get on. I think I have either flooded it or the float bowl thingy is empty....

It Won't Start
Started the car today, it ran for about 20 seconds, then I stalled it and it wouldn't restart.
What have I done? Flooded it? It is normally a very starter.

Re: Wheel Wobble
Update. I few weeks before the wobbly incident I had new tyres fitted all round. The wheels were balanced very carefully by the fitter - whom I thought did a very good, careful job. Since posting on here....... I jacked the front of the car up. I checked the balance of the wheels by spinning them an...

Re: Wheel Wobble
I recently had new tyres fitted - the fitter was very careful to balance the wheels. Whether a balance weight has come off, I will have to check. I think one of the first things is to do after checking whether a weight has come off; is to take the car out and see under what conditions the wobble occ...

Wheel Wobble
This morning I got some wheel wobble while driving at about 50mph. Never noticed it before.
What should I check? Wheel balance? Could worn wheel bearings cause a wobble?
It wasn't too serious, but was certainly noticeable. Any advice welcome.

Which Is My Local Branch?
As a fairly new member, I havent yet attended a regular branch meeting. I hope I will be forgiven if I say that branch and area boundaries are not entirely logical. So, which branch should I attend? I live in Esher in Surrey. What is the form? Do I just turn up, or should I phone the branch secretar...

Tyre Size and Suppliers
I need some new tyres. The present tyres are 145 x 14 76S.
Where can I buy these?
Can I go up to 155 x 15 - will they fit onto standard wheels and hubs? Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced supplier in Surrey?

Do I Need New Tyres?
My tyres have a number of cracks at the bottom of the tread. Is it safe to carry on using them?
What size do I need? Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced supplier?

Battery Isolator Switch
I am proposing to fit a battery isolator switch. There seems to be a convenient position close to where the bonnet release goes through the bulkhead. Is it critical whether it goes on the live or earth lead? I can't remember whether my car is positive or negative earth. Does that make a difference? ...
