Re: Good Place for an MOT in Birmingham
Awesome, thanks for the response, this is great local advice. And, sorry for my delayed response.... I thought I had this thing setup to email me when someone responded. I'm in Moseley, so I think I'll give that Solihull suggestion a try. But yeah, I'll look to join an upcoming Brummy event.... I'll...

Good Place for an MOT in Birmingham
Hi All, I just moved from East Anglia to the Birmingham area, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to get an MOT on my minor done. I had a good guy in East Anglia. He'd go over any failures with me, telling me what needed to be fixed and how. I'm kind of looking for a similar t...

I’m based in Cambridge. The play looks to me to be between the trunnion and damper, but it’s more that the whole leg is rocking back and forth and that’s where you see the most travel. Everything seemed tight... I’ll go for a closer look, and try to capture a video of it, as well as take the top tru...

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. The MOT tester did show me what he was talking about. With the vehicle raised, supported at its frame, and with the suspension hanging down, when you grabbed the top of the tyre and rocked it back and forth, the whole pin/trunnion/damper arm rocked back and...

MOT failure - front suspension play - please help
Hi All, My 1969 saloon just failed its MOT today, and I was wondering if I could get advice. It failed because “nearside front suspension has excessive play in a pin or bush of an upper wishbone inner bearing.” Essentially, when you yanked on the top of the wheel, the whole suspension (pin, damper a...

This is a big help, thanks. Looks like I have another part to order. One more question, though: if the single flexi-pipe on the rear of the vehicle is breaking up, wouldn't it prevent fluid from travelling to both sides, instead of just the one side? This little MOT failure is becoming a fun lesson ...

Thanks! Got everything dismantled last night, and now I'm just waiting for the parts. Definitely looks as though the cylinder was seized. Oddly, though, when I disconnected the farside brake pipe, fluid dripped out, but when I disconnected the nearside, there was no dripping. There are no visible si...

Re: MOT Failure - Rear Brakes - Need Advice
Hi All, My car just failed its MOT today, and the race is on to get it fixed within 10 days. The official comments are "Nearside rear brake recording little or no effort" and "nearside rear brake binding." The tester told me that when the car was on the brake machine, the nearsid...
