Re: I love them until I sit in them
You said you had Beetles. Aren't they are worse? The seat to door post can be tight and Benson and Hedges had to put a bubble in the windscreen for their mm extra cigarettes. The later steering wheel is farther from the screen.

Re: The right oil for the dashpot?
The function of the oil is to delay the rise of the piston when opening the throttle as more engine vacuum starts to pull the piston up, thus increasing the air speed through the venturi which will enrichen the mixture aiding acceleration. Thinner oil would allow the piston to rise faster. Yes, the ...

Re: Where is my rear brake adjuster?
To test the cylinders take a drum off and slowly press the brake pedal and watch the piston move AND return. An assistant makes the job easy. Without one take the shoes off, press the pedal until you see some movement. Without the shoes and springs, the piston will not return or come out due to the ...

Re: Brake shoes…..
For the rear springs in place except for the hook near where the adjuster will be, place around hub, position shoes into fixed pivot, hook spring, and insert adjuster. The seven inch fronts similarly except hook the last spring and then using the slot in the shoe, leverage the shoe up to insert adju...

Re: indicators which controls
Turn signals, as we call them, took a long time to become required. Over the years aftermarket device were offered for the owners to add. One of the first required item was sealed beam headlights which may have be applied retroactively because adapters to mount sealed beam units in older cars were c...

Re: indicators which controls
This era involved many changes. All switch bodies had the hole for the lamp as surely other vehicles use the Lucas switch. Initially Minors used the unlighted version with the indicator in the speedo. For models with flashing indicators the wire may have come directly from the flasher unit under the...

Although RHD and LHD are universally understood, for some reason recently some will change right and left as they walk around the vehicle.

Re: Horn slip ring which way up
For confirmation there are two features that control the orientation. First, the split insulator under the slip ring can it be assembled either way? It probably can since it's a round hole in the steering column. The next is the controlling feature. The contact that rides on the slip ring must touch...

Re: What is this ?
59Elva, Are these plastic glove boxes a simply solid enclosed box with just the one side open - no split on the top? I recall they were made in California and I have a set installed. The left one is a tighter fit than the right one being larger. To install align it perpendicular to the dash with the...

Re: Fuel Starvation....🤔
Besides the push for electric there is also the current, virtually standard usage of high pressure fuel injection of gasoline in vehicles. Of course the high pressure from tank to injectors eliminates any chance of vaporisation, but the dynamics of mixing air and fuel are different. A carburetor is ...

Re: Fuel Starvation....🤔
Left over winter blend is by far the major contributor for vaporisation. All the conversations tend to be based on temperature but that is only half of the physics. Temperature and pressure are part of the equation that affect fuel vaporisation. Yes, as the temp rises the fuel starts to boil and whe...

Re: No Brakes!!
The factory only assembled new parts and everything threaded easily using a wrench only to tighten. On RHD cars they might have assembled the rear line prior to bolting the MC in place. However much less free movement is available on LHD cars and trucks due to the routing of the rear hard line. Wres...

Re: Oversized carb
All A Series Midgets for North America had dual carbs. The air pump feeding the exhaust on a closing throttle was used on all A Series vehicles in 1967 or 68. Late in 1974 the 1500 was chosen to comply with the current emissions requirements and lead free fuel because the effort to comply would be s...

Re: Oversized carb
In the States the most likely source was an Austin America (Austin 1300). A MG 1100 could be possible. The transverse manifolds are compatible with RWD cars which required an offset in the exhaust pipe even though the FWD saloons was the majority of production. However, the low volume Midget eventua...

Are the shoes adjusted? Adjust them and then stab the pedal a few times to help centralize the shoes and adjust again. Then need to be close for minimal travel for least amount of fluid transfer.

Re: No Brakes!!
Even when used regularly, I would check the cylinders at every 1000 mile greasing it was common to find one seize cylinder. Although, I am guilty of not changing the fluid. Less frequently seized cylinder were also found on more modern Detroit vehicles. One was less than a year old.

Re: No Brakes!!
Seize pistons are a way of life until you switch to silicone brake fluid. You can't hone the rear cylinders due to the slot for the handbrake lever. However, being aluminum they clean up easily with steel wool.

Re: Front damper lock tabs
With the weight off the wheel there is no dangerous side load on the shock mounting, just the weight of the wheel/swivel assembly pulling outward. The main problem will be removing the outboard bolts due to the arm blocking them. The weight of the car alone is not enough to move the arm high enough ...
