What is the purpose of this ?

Post by Giovanni »

Does anyone know what the purpose of the two box sections with threaded hole on the interior of the pick up can. It can’t be for a spare wheel as it’s far too low. I have attached a picture as my description isn’t the best.

That's so close up, I couldn't picture where it is?

Found this in the Parts Book, but not found what goes on it....
It looks different to what you have though :-?

Thanks for your replies so far, it would be good to know if anyone has actually used these fixings or if there is a picture of it in use.

Some Australian pick ups were built with bench seats, so it is possible they used the fitting, although probably not what they were intended for.

I like the look of the bench seat in the pickup, I haven’t seen this before and looks great.

I haven’t pulled out the PO installed interior trim yet to see what is behind it but I also wondered what the brackets on the rear bulkhead of my previous pickup were for. Im getting ahead of myself thinking about the interior while I have deficient brakes and the undersized carb and exhaust system on the 1275. I have parts on order that I hope will address these problems.
I like the idea of a bench seat in the pickup. Presently I have a couple seats of unknown origin. They are sitting on 2 inch spacers. They are comfortable, black cloth. The interior of the truck is completely covered in black vinyl. Too dark for my taste. Other people have said pickups did have headliners and limited trim. Can anyone please post some pictures of what the correct trim looks like?
Also details of the Australian bench seat would be greatly appreciated. As for color Im thinking grey or light green. Would these be available colors. I assume carpet kits are rare for a pickup. What model would be the best match, traveler, four door?

I agree it's for the inside spare mount.

A captive nut and a hole thru the bulkhead allowed the spare to be mounted in the bed. I recall it was an odd thread that I had to chase on my lathe. I would assume the same captive nut in the upper brace would hold the spare inside leaving little to no room for the passenger seat. A clamp alone using the lower bracket would seem inadequate. Combined with a bolt in the upper bracket it would be redundant.
Any of our Australian brothers know how bench seats were mounted?
Any pics of a properly trimmed interior?

If you purchased a brand new "bog standard" pick-up truck at the time, it wouldn't have come with a passenger seat.
That was an optional extra!
