The process is called 'pancaking'. Honest. To do it you need to do a small section at a time, say 4". Cut the bonnet moulding away leaving a hole, which then needs filling with new sheet steel cut to size. When done, dress welds nicely, quick skim of lead and you're done!
Never mind the rims, where did you get that great sun visor?
Oh, it looks great in satin black by the way. Red rims might be too obvious anyway. Mid green or something a bit more 'period' would be better, especially with some wide whites as well!
Thanks for the links, I think I've found what I want close to home. I just need to measure and send a photo of the damaged one I have to see if the replacement is right. Then I as reminded that we have an agent in Italy at work! I forgot........ dp, ignition mods sound good, I'll keep your info file...
Hi all,
I've rolled my sleeves up and got stuck in with my car. The question is, are engine parts still available for the twin cam from breakers or even Fiat dealers?
This is a real shame, having previously owned a 240 estate, the forum was invaluable as a resource.
I'm also a member on retro-rides, where there is no animosity at all, it's probably (current posting position excepted) the best forum I'm a member of!
Bookmarked!
What a fast and inspirational build. It's great to see the pictures of the panel replacement. I bought the Haynes restoration and repair manual for my Minor, and the pictures are so old, and all single colour and not very good.

That one sounds nice! No, it's white with rusty bits. A bit of a project as well, although it was running a while ago. A very patient friend is waiting for me to move it from his driveway - hopefully quite soon.
Hi all,
I saw a link to here on Retro-rides, posted by bigginger and followed it. Having almost taken possession of a 1956 split screen 4 door with a 2ltr fiat twin-cam, I guess I should be here!
