Re: Wrong wiper motor

The plot thickens. Further confusion here, and I wonder if anyone has more suggestions. I purchased a used 100 degree wheel off eBay, in great shape. I reopened the motor to install it, and it was instantly obvious that the 100 degree wheel will not fit. The motor has the same design, but the wheel ...

Re: Wrong wiper motor

Thanks for the information! Based on a couple of other comments on related threads, I'm wondering if it's worth my time to pull out and inspect the wheelboxes at each wiper. More to the point, I'm assuming it's something I should do, but wondering if it makes a difference to do it at the same time a...

Wrong wiper motor

Hello all - I have a 1959 2-door Minor (Serial Number 746***) and person who rebuilt it before I got it did a bunch of things a little oddly. Among others, he seems to have installed a later wiper motor: a DR3A instead of a DR2. This means the wipers have a lot of extra travel beyond the edges of th...

When's my car's Birthday?

So, my Minor is turning fifty this year, and since I like having excuses to bake fancy chocolate desserts, I'd like to try to figure out when its birthday is, more or less. People here seem not to like to disclose full chassis numbers, though from this side of the pond I'm not clear what is being pr...

Mystery distributor on 1275 engine.

My car has a 1275 engine with a distributor I can't identify. I was told to look for the identification code on the distributor, 45D or 59D. There is no such code (or any other) that I can find. When I look at pages that show distributor caps, the 45D/59D cap (I gather it's the same one) looks right...

Unlikely anything like this is your problem, but I had a similar failure two or three times and eventually figured out it was that the jury-rigged battery holder the previous owner had installed was not completely tight, but allowed the battery to slip forward slightly when braking hard (or jog when...

Okay, one last question on this subject, just to make sure. For the moment I'm trying out the simple tele-damper conversion as described in the MMOC tech tips book. Among other things, this is easily reversible if I decide I don't like it. One basic question, though: are the dampers used for this t...

That's a good explanation. At this point I'm planning on doing all this modification incrementally (not having the luxury of being able to take it to an expert who can do a fancy integrated revamp of the whole system). Perhaps I should wait until I've decided on whether I feel I need ARBs and come b...

thanks for the information and advice, everyone. This has been very helpful. Not that I've quite made my decision yet. While I'm on the subject, anyone think there's anything wrong with replacing only one spring (leaf spring, that is)? My left spring has a broken leaf, and it's going to get w...

Re: rear teles

For the above teles mod I could send you the details from the technical manual if you wish? This is the MMOC tech manual? I'd love to see it. I am considering getting a membership just for that. On the OB kit - I take it it's just a piece of relatively thick pressed steel sheet with holes punched i...

Since I can't bring the car in to JLH (or any other specialist) I'm looking at what's best to do by myself. Money is certainly an issue, but I'm looking to do this right, within my own abilities. The standard bolt-on rear kits (Owen Burton, I guess, or perhaps several models?) seem to present some p...

Yes, well, it would of course be nice to be able to do that kind of hands-on research, but I live an ocean and a continent away from the land of plentiful Minors. In the five years I've owned mine, I have seen exactly three others running in my area, one of which was only because I was buying a used...

relative merits of different damper conversions?

Okay, I'm aware there are several threads, and many competing opinions about the question of converting dampers/shocks from the original lever model to modern telescoping style. Searching the boards here I've seen many people say the old style is perfectly okay unless you're going for seriously high...

You'll have that filed out before your mug of tea gets cold! It'd have to be mighty hot to begin with. ;) I spent 45 minutes with my best files (I am a metalworker; they're good files) adjusting the old part by an almost invisible margin so that it would fit on when flipped over. This is 3/32 of an...

LHD odd part fit

I know almost everyone here is in RHD land, but I have a mystery. The LHD clutch pedal has an extra part: a little pear-shaped stamped steel lever with a slot on top which fits onto the oblong fitting on the end of the clutch pedal rod. The part number is COM128. The lower hole of mine was seriously...

if you wrap tape round a stick (e.g. valve grinding stick, or wooden spoon handle) to get the same diameter as the input shaft, this can be used as an indicator to show if the bush is badly worn or not. Though this strikes me as more relevant to the bronze bush than the needle bearing, it seemed li...
