Just spoke to Peter Burgess, the soonest he can fit me in would be 5 October- I guess the fact he is so busy must say something.
Anyway, for now going back to R E Performance in Bury on Wednesday to see if he can sort it. If not will book in with Peter Burgess

Re: Engine tuning near me
Anyone aware of or experience of Pro-Tec Performance in Clifton (North of Preston).
My ultimate solution would be to go to Peter Burgess, he is absolutely superb. My modified head is from him. Only problem, he is in Alfreton, over 2 hours away!

Engine tuning near me
Can anyone recommend a good engine tuner/rolling road near Leyland/Preston.
Have been to R E Performance in Bury (45 minutes away!) but need to take it back as not quite right. Engine is 948cc with twin HS2 carbs.
Thanks

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
Sorry to bother you all again.
Did my re torque after letting engine cool down.
Next plan was to do it again after 200 miles or so.
However heard that it isn’t necessary to do this with a composite gasket - is that correct?
Or if it is done then must not back off the nuts, just torque them?

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
Just double checked and using a composite gasket on an A-Series engine, it is recommended to re torque after getting up to temperature and then cooling off.

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
I applied Permatex to all studs that break through to the water chamber - the 5 on the spark plug side. Did one at a time. Waited 24 hours then ran engine up to temperature (got to 170 deg). All seems ok. Will let it cool off then re torque tomorrow. Mind you I read somewhere that modern composite t...

Engine tuning near me
My engine is running a bit rich - twin SU carbs.
Is there a good engine tuner in the Leyland / Preston area or anywhere in Lancashire.
Thanks

Why not use PTFE tape?

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
It was drying the thread in the block that I was concerned about. I did clear this thread with a tap when it was all stripped down - that’s probably why it’s leaking. All the other dirty threads are fine. I have never used sealant on these studs in the past! Does using PTFE tape seem like a reasonab...

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
So I will remove the offending stud. How about using PTFE tape on the thread, just conscious I won’t be able to clean the thread in the block with the head still on.
Guess it’s worth a try.

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
Right, I have made a decision. Going to strip it all down again- 3rd time!! Will put sealant on all the studs where they fit into the block. Now this leads me back to picking a good make of head gasket, any suggestions? Currently have a Victor Reinz (Dana) fitted. I do have a BGA gasket too - any go...

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
It’s a cylinder head stud, not sure I can take just one stud out?

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
Thanks Stephen It’s the second stud from the front. I have high tensile studs (although not ARP), these are screwed in hand tight as per instructions. Guess I could put sealant on the thread but it’s another strip down and more new gaskets! But why is it just this one as all the threaded holes are t...

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
Assembled everything with new gasket. Noticed that one of the studs was about 2-3 mm higher than the rest. So decided to strip it all - as you do! All the stud holes are through holes, going into the water chamber in the block. The stud that was high had a blind hole, the bottom was not metal though...

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
From what I can gather the Victor Reinz composite head gasket (part no: 61-35330-00) does not have a sticky adhesive on its surface. Instead, the surface has a special dry coating (or impregnation). This coating stops the gasket from soaking up oil and water. Therefore do I run it without coolant in...

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
Stephen Thank you. This is so confusing but here is my revised plan of action: Fit gasket dry. Torque all nuts to required torque in order as shown in manual. Set tappet clearance. Do not fill with coolant. Run engine till it’s hot. Do not loosen nuts but just re torque them while engine is still ho...

Re: Victor Reinz composite gasket
After much thought and faffing about I’ve decided to fit the gasket dry - is this the right decision, who knows! Next issue is the tightening of the nuts. Is this the correct procedure:- Assemble everything and torque up the nuts. Do not add coolant. Run engine till it’s hot then retention the nuts,...
