Just to close this off…big end bearings changed and no more knocking.
Thanks again for your help in pointing me in the right direction.
Best wishes.

Re: Knocking from engine on medium revs.
This is really an excellent owners group forum…it really feels like there is access to really supportive expert advice and suggestions. I will take it out for a run on Thursday and check the various points raised about when exactly it occurs. I have tried to post a video and the MMOC Facebook page. ...

Re: Knocking from engine on medium revs.
Thanks for all the comments. I have not found out how to attach a video to this message…it even stumped my grandson. Is it permissible to try sending it as an attachment to the private email of someone if they give me permission? The thing that I find strange given my very limited expertise is that ...

Re: Knocking from engine on medium revs.
I will try to post a video. This morning I took car for a short run to warm up. Rattle noice still there. It seems to be within a fairly narrow mid rev range. I can get rid of it by modifying speed and / or changing gear. With the engine warm I pulled off each plug lead in turn and reved the engine....

Knocking from engine on medium revs.
Dear All. Sorry but an other query/ advice sought on my daughters Minor…1963, 4 door saloon, standard engine. Yesterday my daughter, while driving home from work…a journey of about ten miles / engine warmed up…noticed a “ rattle” coming from the engine bay of her car “ as if something was about to f...

Re: Clutch not “working
Dear All. Thanks for all the comments about blocks of wood, disconnecting the return spring and Hooks Law….that takes me back to “Sid “ Pierce’ 5th form physics lessons at Lewes County Grammar School…happy days. For me I will solve this problem by simply nagging my daughter to use her car regularly ...

Re: Manifold Work Tips?
It is not simply a leak between the manifold and the exhaust? I found it a bit fiddly to get the top tube of the exhaust pipe securely lined up and clamped to the exhaust manifold….had to get someone ( my grand son) to take the weight of the exhaust pipe / silencer while I lined up and fixed the cla...

Re: Clutch not “working
As always a big thanks for all the advice. Went around to me daughter this morning, got the car started and warmed up, turned off the engine, selected second gear, and then tried to start the engine in gear. At the second “stall” there was a pleasant clunk from the gear box “tunnel” and the clutch w...

Clutch not “working
For various reasons my daughter’s Minor has not been used over the winter. She went to start it up today. It started first time but the clutch would not let her select any gears. The clutch was working fine. Looking in the book the clutch adjustment would seem a good place for me to start. Can any b...

Re: Car losing power….where to start
Just an update / additional question. I have put in a new rotor arm …the old one had signs of wear / carbonisation around the edge….and will order a new red one from the Distributor Doctor on Monday. I am getting a new “ in line” petrol filter…the old one is looking pretty dirty… and will fit that w...

Re: Car losing power….where to start
Stephen, Jackie, Myoldjalopy The inlet fuel pipe is how you describe ….. the metal pipe has been cut about 6 inches from the pump inlet and the two are joined by a short length of plastic tubing. In this short length of pipe there is normally a couple of small bubbles. Up until now this has not caus...

Thanks Oliver for your helpful comment.
There is no PCV valve.
I will investigate the various fuel issues identified.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Re: Car losing power….where to start
As always thanks to everyone for pitching in with suggestions. To try to answer some of the points raised. Keith….I only use E5 petrol, never keep too much standing in the tank and tend to top up with fresh as and when I take the car out. So I don’t think that the petrol is stale. Stephen…Not sure w...

Car losing power….where to start
Any suggestions please as to what to look at. I was driving my Minor home yesterday…1969 4 door saloon, all standard. While I have not used the car much over the winter it always starts reasonably easily and goes quite well. Yesterday, while nearing the top of a not very steep hill, the car suddenly...

Re: Damaged radiator
Just to close this off. Thanks to everyone for their advice. Still not sure why the original problem occurred but I went back to the original work that I had done on the car. I took every thing off apart from the new water pump and thermostat. I then replaced everything again making sure that everyt...

Re: Damaged radiator
Simmitc Thanks for your comments. Just one query. The blade on my daughters car did not / does not have the small square plate as shown on your diagram. This plate presumably provides strengthening for the blade. It just has the blade bolted onto the pump pulley. Should I try to get this plate. My M...

Re: Damaged radiator
I got the car back to my house alright. Having had a good look at the car I am unable to move the engine at all by rocking / pulling it back and forward. Everything seems to be as it should. The gearbox steady wire appears to be in good condition but I will need to jack the car up to be able to get ...

Re: Damaged radiator
As always thanks Phil for your prompt reply. I will give it a try. Regarding my comment about towing a Morris I just read a few comments about the problem of finding a satisfactory point to attach the tow rope without causing possible damage to the chassis of the towed car. It will be much easier fo...

Re: Damaged radiator
Thanks for all the comments. The replacement radiator and fan blade arrived today. Hopefully I will be able to take a look at the car over the weekend. One final question / request for comment….. If I need to replace / adjust the gearbox engine steady, or do any other work on the engine, it will be ...
