Re: Interesting car on Gumtree
I will "bite"! What's "special" about it? It's a nice looking example of a "late model" MM, it's not even a "low light"! I don't know if that's a realistic figure in Europe/UK or not, but personally I would rather have a "Jag" you could get for the s...

Re: engine parts BMB President
Don't know anything about the war department units but a friend of mine has a president tractor and it uses the later series MM type engine with the aluminium water jacket on the right hand of the engine. I remember this because it corroded out and he had to make a replacement.

Re: Cracked Block
Mike, If you are going to get it stitched make sure you show it to someone who realy knows their stuff ! With a crack like that going right out to the cylinder it may need sleeving as well to stop it cracking down the cylinder wall, and if it does I think replacement block would be in order.

Re: oil air bath filters - which oil ?
We have several pieces of older farm equipment with oil bath aircleaners (tractors, trucks and utilitys) and they all use the same oil as the engine takes in the sump ! (clean of course) I presume the minor would be the same.

Re: Cylinder head removal
I saw an old mechanic I used to work with remove a cylinder head by leaving the car hanging on an engine crane by the head so the full weight of the car was going onto the studs over an Easter weekend break (about 5 days) with a liberal amount of vinegar poured into the head bolt tunnels. The theory...

Picked up my spare parts car !
Just letting you blokes know that I have just picked up my spare parts car ! I had a look at it late last year just before the start of our harvest period and by the time the harvest had finnished the owner had gone on holidays so I had to wait until now when he had returned. When I aproached him he...

Re: Badge in MM glovebox lid
Thanks Dave, I showed it to one of my "spys" and he thinks he knows where one is ! Aparently another fellow in the district used to have several minors and he thinks he remembers one like it in a box of parts he has. He has since sold the minors but still has a few of the bits he collected...

Re: Badge in MM glovebox lid
Thanks Dave, that conferms it, my badge is identical except the centre emblem is missing ! I had a pretty good look around after I found it but it looks like the emblem may have been missing for decades. Mike, I like the clock idea, and I remember seeing one sold on "Epay" a while ago, and...

Badge in MM glovebox lid
I think I have just found the center badge for the 49 lowlight, but its missing the "emblem" in the center. Its just the right size to fit in the hole in the glovebox lid, made out of chrome plated spun steel with a black ring between two raised spun sections on the "face" and ha...

Re: Found myself a spare parts car !
Thanks Mike, I arn't sure if its inner guards are the same as the lowlights or not, I had a look over the car but its something I didn't even think to look for. Likewise the bonnet "looks" the same as the other lowlights I have so I am asuming it is the same as the 49 and 50 cars. I did no...

Found myself a spare parts car !
G'Day blokes, I am still collecting bits for the "lowlight" and had a win yesterday ! (I think) I was up at a Saturday meeting of our little vintage club and one of our newer members was telling me about a minor his neighbour had on a farm he had purchased. When I heard "side valve&qu...
