Re: Smart Phones at the wheel still today!!!

Anybody else remember the sudden shock of a toughened windscreen suddenly going completely opaque when hit by a stone? There's a lot to be said for laminated glass. It happened to me at the end of August, I have only been driving since mid February. I was in the right hand lane at an odd intersecti...

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

I am very grateful to the local branch members who came round on Wednesday and got it running better. I believe they changed the points and replaced one of the wires, cleaned the rotor arm, and set the timing. Then they discovered the fuel pump was not working properly; so they cleared all the dirt ...

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

However valve gaps all seem to be 12 thou. Also I joined the local branch before having the car, I had tried to find someone who would be able to show how to do a few service items but for whatever reason it hasn't happened, so here I am asking daft questions on the forum, now I have this problem, a...

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

I have been frustratingly too busy over the weekend to look at my car, let me try and answer a few questions. I haven't changed any parts recently, although I have not had the car that long. The fuel is less than 2 months old, although the tank was nearly empty when I got it, could it have sucked so...

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

I also took the rocker cover off so I could set the valve gaps, there seems to be a very thin layer of mayonnaise on the rockers and inside of the cover. Also I am struggling to undo the lock-nuts.

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

There is quite a bit of resistance when pushing it upwards, it falls back down with a medium speed.

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

How far is the Carb piston supposed to move? If I push the piston lifting pin it rises then, with the briefest of pauses, it falls back down after releasing the pin. The spark plugs I would describe as light brown with a layer of soot over the top, although I did manage to stall it a couple of times...

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

Also should there be a rubber seal between the housing and baseplate of the air filter?

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

Thank you, yes I see now. The air filter seems quite dirty, the inlet is pointing right at the exhaust manifold should I move it? I also seem to be missing a Jubilee clip on the breather pipe. Where am I looking for the Carb piston?

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

Thank you all for the suggestions, that is a lot to be getting on with. I'll get back to you when I have tried them or when I have some questions regarding doing them. Would it be worth checking the valve gaps and do I require a specific tool for removing the Spark plugs?
Thank you
Robbie.

Re: Lumpy under acceleration.

Lumpy under acceleration.

Hello, I am completely new to this, I have a 1967 2-door with a standard 1098, as far as I am aware. I took it for a little drive on Sunday and it became progressively more lumpy (stuttering) under acceleration. I don't have a clue where to begin solving this, although I have found the online worksh...
