She's in the garage now... Having a new electronic dizzy fitted plus the vac advance. Likely an AAU needle too. Have discovered possible source of the mystery white smoke.... Slight leak in brake servo. Who da thunk that?!

I have contacted Burlen. They said I could send it to them and they would fit it or they would send me the part free of charge. It's a simple drill and push in job. Part is on way. Also taking opportunity to change distributor for new one.

.... A further thought has dawned..... About a year ago, the front section of exhaust fell off.... You know.... The bit with the big silencer (there are two on big bore pipe). It was replaced in an emergency with a bit of straight thru pipe.... Sounds awesome but have never been able to tune properl...

Right... The thicker oil made no difference. Running without the air filter made negligible difference. Adding two flats to riches the mixture didn't do loads either. I did clean and treat the K&N to make sure it wasn't dry or dirty. Will check out the distributor next to ensure its the right ty...

Thanks. If I can't rectify with tuning I will ditch the air filter. Have had same set up working well in the past... And the air filter did aid performance. Also.... Can't seem to find any marina air filters on eBay....

I will be testing the theories (all except needle changes) on Saturday and will feed back. Cars an everyday runner.

not sure what would be defined as pancake... It's far from flat but may be overkill. The vac advance is not present on this carb which I find odd... Could that be an issue? I'm assured from Burlen its a proper marina pattern carb and I thought they all had vac advance. Engine is not a plus. Standard...

The carb is AUD 354 so needle should be correct, I will try the alternative oil and may replace the air filter with something else like a standard morris or mg one. Or maybe I will give air filter a good clean and oil....thanks for the advice...
