Re: Standard 1098 camshaft variable timing settings

Hi all thanks for getting back to me. Using the figures above and the fact that the part number is the same as the sprite that means maximum opening should be at 110 degrees ATDC. I know you all think its complete overkill putting the Vernier setup on a standard 1098 and that the wear on the engine ...

Re: Standard 1098 camshaft variable timing settings

I seem to think I have read on a sprite website forum that they were talking about 110 degrees ATDC. Don't think I can assume that the sprite and the Morris share the same camshaft. The best bit is I bought the Vernier timing gears from David Manners at Birmingham so sent them an e-mail to ask if th...

Standard 1098 camshaft variable timing settings

Hi all I have a standard 1098 engine and a set of the adjustable timing gears. What I would like to know is the degree of maximum opening for the inlet valve on the standard camshaft so that I can adjust the timing gear. By the way I had the variable gear on another engine that was sitting doing not...

Re: MORRIS MINOR MAGAZINE: SUSPENSION OF PUBLICATION

Hi All

Don't know if this has been asked already but does anyone know what the last issue of Minor monthly was? I know there is a November 2011 but was there any more after that?

Re: Sump plug thread size?

Mr Merlin, I've been making the assumption that your Smith's gauge is the type with an ether(?) filled bulb, a capillary tube ending with a pressure gauge on the end which is calibrated to show a temperature - is that right? It's not an electric type, is it? That might be more suitable to be fitted...

Re: Sump plug thread size?

That's a much better idea - well done Mike... If you don't want to spoil the fun on here Mike - can you PM me the temp readings you get, please?? You don't need to know the oil temperature. If the car is for road use - it will be fine. If it's for competition use - it NEEDS an oil cooler - Simples ...

Re: Sump plug thread size?

The sump plug thread is 1/2" x 20TPI UNF. Many thanks for that. I have had to remove the sump anyway as it appears there is a leak from somewhere so I may investigate getting a mounting in the side of the sump seeing as it is out anyway. I hope the leak is just a gasket as its a 1275 ital engi...

Re: Sump plug thread size?

Have you not missed the point. I have the gauge and wish to fit it. just like I have a 5-speed gearbox and wanted to fit it. In the mini community everyone has a completely different car because everyone has their own preferences. I am the same with the Minor. I am going for the same sort of look wi...

Re: Sump plug thread size?

Its perfectly fine on the Mini and that's far lower to the ground and a much faster car. Have you ever seen a sump plug on a minor that is scratched up from coming into contact with the ground - other than after suspension failure?

Sump plug thread size?

Hi all I am looking to fit a smiths oil temperature gauge that I have and was wondering if anyone knew the size and pitch of the sump plug thread so that I can get a temperature sender unit to replace the sump plug or an adapter to fit the sump plug hole that a smaller temperature sender can fit int...

Re: What exhaust to fit a 1275 A+

All large bore systems available have an extra silencer/muffler at the rear. If you want the best, go for Maniflow's large bore system. It seems to get the most praise. You'll find it much quieter with the large bore system. The extra silencer at the back seems to make a helluva difference! At low ...

What exhaust to fit a 1275 A+

Hi all I am nearing the end of the restoration of my 67 2 door and have reached the point of running the engine. I have a 1275 A+ with an HS6 carb and a standard minor stainless exhaust( the one with only one muffler in the front section) and a standard manifold. Its a bit loud to say the least. The...

Re: HS6 SU Carb on Marina 1275 - what needle/Jet ?

the angle will depend on what inlet manifold you're using. if you've got a protractor to hand you can measure the angle you've got. Thats exactly the plan of attack. Will measure the angle then order the right one with a service kit for the carb and a fuel pump kit at the same time. I have tried to...

Re: HS6 SU Carb on Marina 1275 - what needle/Jet ?

OK guys I have come into another issue with the HS6 carb I have. The float chamber is at the wrong angle in relation to the carb body as when the carb is bolted to the manifold the float bowl is not vertical. There is a float bowl chamber adapter between the carb and the float chamber - part number ...

Re: Fuel injection for A-series

If you are hell bent on injection there will be companies out there that specialise in conversions but they are usually race specialists who will map the brain on a rolling road and set up all the sensors etc - you are talking a fair chunk of money I bet.

Re: HS6 SU Carb on Marina 1275 - what needle/Jet ?

Thanks guys

Tried the Minty lamb website and the suggested BDL needle looks like the one to go for so will get hold of one and give it a try. Might be a while before I get that far as the car is just a shell at the moment - cant wait to get into final assembly - its been a long journey.

Re: HS6 SU Carb on Marina 1275 - what needle/Jet ?

Thanks for getting back so quickly and for the advice firstly the existing needle in the HS6 is a BAS I have a few other SU carbs kicking about so checked their needles and have a BDW and an ADG - the others are at my fathers so will have to check them when I get chance. I tried the WinSU program al...
