I was just wondering if the condenser, rotor arm and points etc. from a Morris 25d distributor would also work in a 45d Triumph dolly 1300 distributor? Anybody know?

Also, anything else similar - starter solenoid for example, bleed nipples? Etc

I might try that tomorrow - whole day used up today getting the old box out and tried to get new one in with no success... wasn't able to push it up and was quite nervous being under car / engine / gearbox ...! I'll take the floor out tomorrow!!!

Brilliant, thank you! Old side gasket wasn't damaged, rubbers seem okay, thrust bearing plenty of carbon, front seal looks new. There is slight play on the front shaft - but been told it's okay on this forum given only 1/1.2 mm play at the end of the shaft. So... straight swap with no new bits!! Exc...

So, preparing to change my gearbox at the end of next week - unfortunately an axle stands and sweat job, but preparing now... by asking what do I need to order to complete the job? I know I need a new gasket for the side panel of the gearbox (as I have had it open to check condition of the gears)......

It doesn't help that my workshop manual - though a latter edition - only contains a piccy of an earlier gearbox. Does the Haynes manual have an internal diagram of the latter gearbox? I will need one as am going to rebuild the old gearbox so that the speedo worm drive works... I hope you will still ...

Yes, yes, more poking and there are syncro rings - so, cone equalises speed and then this floating ring helps the gear mesh yes?

God, I hope these are ribbed boxes... better go and take a photo!

These are ribbed cases, I can't 'see' the cones as such in the actual gearbox. So (using BL/BMC book terms) - the 'synchroniser' is attached to the shaft and is actually a tube with splines / teeth on both the inside (to grab the shaft) and outside in the case of the first gear (to grab the layshaft...
