I had the same problem a few months ago. I suspect tat someone made a batch of caps that aren't quite right. I got mine swapped for anoher, which althogh VERY tight to turn, did fit. It's the same old problem that modern spares are not made to the same specification as the originals. Assuming that y...

I agree with most of what's been said. I've driven 8 different Moggies over 20+ years (still own / drive 4) and have used them all for towing (some quite heavy) and daily commuting; covering about 20,000 miles per year. In all that time I've managed to break one half shaft, and that had covered abou...

I've seen some sockets desrcibed as "metrinch" because they're designed to fit both sizes of nuts. Never used them, but I thinj they're available from Frost Restoration, as tools and accessories reseller.

You CAN get a heated windscreen for a Moggie !! Talk to Morris Minor Centre (Birmingham). Beats scraping ice with a credit card, although you do need the card to pay for the screen....

Ensure that rubber is well lubricated. Apart from the jokes that could bring, try plenty of fairy liquid (seriously) but make sure that you rinse with fresh water after you've finished. It also helps if everything is warm - either summer time or a heated garage; but definitely not outdoors with fros...

The tradename of the material that you're looking for is "velbex" or "ambla" (depending on the exact use), both made by a company Wardle Storeys. They don't sell small quantities to the public, but if you're in Southampton then try Amari Plastics, they are a distributor / stockis...

"double check timing and firing order" is exactly what I wrote on the first reply. Not trying to sound smug, it's just that I remember being in the same place many years ago..... Glad it's all sorted, look forward to seeing the car out and about.

Does the eninge turn freely by hand with plugs out? Could be something not assmebled correctly. Also, does starter motor run OK off the car? Again, could be a faulty new unit. Also double check timing and firing order. Wrong connections or way too advanced ignition could cause kick-back which appear...

I've done the conversion the cheap way with more work via the scrap yard, and the easy but slightly more expensive way via a kit from a Minor Specialist. I've bought kits from several of the advertisers in Minor Matters. They all supply the alternator, pulley, fan belt, mounting bracket & wiring...

At this time of year it could just be condensation. Also, rain water sometimes manages to get into the chassis leg and then drip out through the designed drainage hole. Just after Halloween, it could be ectoplasm :P

Back to original query, Mike Lennon at Morris Minor Centre (Birmingham) now has modern heated front screen to fit Minor. I think about £130 + VAT and switches, but I'm hoping to go and see one shortly. Certainly sounds very interesting bearing in mind how effective the heated rear screens are.

You don't need to belong to all clubs, just stick with the best for the best car - the MMOC for the Minor ! Sorry if the search hasn't turned up the answer, threads do sometimes go astray. Anyway, first a bit of theory: Behind the headlining is a thin playwood board that runs the wideth of the car, ...

I've done two Travs with the Brum kit. It's really the same as swapping over the standard box, except you bolt the new bell housing on the front of the Ford box and when refitting the gearbox cover you use the new one supplied in the kit (to clear the new box. The gear lever ends up a little further...

And if you want the driver's seat to be adjustable you can swap them over too. Heater control you could probably reach anyway. If driving on other side of road, don't forget to change dip pattern on headlights. I think that you've covered eveything else, it sounds like a fun project. Good luck &...

Many years ago with my first Minor when I was ppor & impoverished I used GRP wings. Three were perfect fits, the 4th was a right b*****d requiring some chopping & glassing to make it fit. I've still got the car in the garden, and the wings are rust free! Note that there can be a great deal o...

I know the bit you mean, secured by being sandwiched under the stainless handle/lock on the front edge of the rear glass. It's not really any help, but I've been trying to find some for years. It's about time that everyone should need some, so one of the traders ought to be able to get the extrusion...

I like the Burgess stuff as you can apply the base coat even when the timber is damp, and it dries very quickly. I first found it when "varnishing" the wood on the boat, and always get it from my yacht chandler. BUT there is one big disadvantage for the Travellers - it is NOT resistant to ...
