The sill strengthening panel supplied with conversion kits is simply a folded 18g steel sheet to be welded outside the sill. I tried to solder 28/0.30 cable to the field coil end and found that it is too heavy for solder to hold. After soldering the bonding broke off when the cable was moved slightly. Thanks Bob and Roy for the advice. Yes, I will use Castrol LM grease and look around for 28/0.30mm cable. I checked the old Lucas recommendations and found that the original cable is 28/0.012" of which the current metric equivalent is 28/0.30mm. Thanks again.

I prefer to use the original 7" drums and I read on another thread that wear on drums up to 1/16" is acceptable. I note that the second drum has just exceeded this limit.

I cleaned the wiper motor by glass bead blasting the main body, aluminium base and end cap, gearbox cover plate and parking switch cover. As the cable originally used is rubber insulated there was a recommendation in a forum on the internet to use a flexible cable rather than stiffer PVC insulated cable. I cannot comment if the original MOWOG pins were case hardened after machining, but it is unlikely that the replacement pins manufactured now are case hardened. I just found that the 17mm pin is meant to be used with replacment bottom trunnions made in India. These trunnions have a bush diameter of 16.9mm and I was advised to 'ream' the bush to 17mm before fitting the pin. This I guess is part of going metric. The pin on the right is not a genuine item, a new replacement for the Minor. I measured the diameter of the new pin with a vernier caliper and it is exactly 17.0mm. The trunnions I have are genuine MOWOG and this pin does not fit. Does the new replacement trunnions have bushes with slightly larger ID?
