Re: First Time Welding - What Equipment?
The Machine Mart MIG welders have a good reputation, I have one and find it suitable for work on my Morris (and other jobs)

Re: Will not start
Have you confirmed that the carburetor float and needle are in good order? It does sound like you are getting too much fuel at tickover.

Sharp chisel should do it, or file their heads off (ouch!)

Make sure you take off and retain the engine number plate, often lost when the block is skimmed.

Re: Choke cable snapped ?
SU carburetors do not have accelerator pumps, so operating the throttle pedal will have no effect.

Re: Over Heating
I think you need to check the water pump, make sure the impeller hasn't become detached. Minors are very overcooled so I doubt the extra fan blade would make much difference.

Re: Flat battery
OK, if the light is going out the dynamo (or alternator) is producing some charge. A competent garage would be able to check the output and pinpoint the problem. A picture of the engine bay would show us what system you have.

Re: Flat battery
Clearly the battery is not charging, so the fault would be with the dynamo, regulator or alternator if fitted. Does the ignition light go out once the car is running?

Be aware that the cheap replacement electronic distributors can be very poor quality, you do get what you pay for.

If you can't lock the wheels when you stamp on the brakes there is something wrong.

Or do a compression check, no dismantling required.
