Fuel gauge

Hi guys please can anyone tell me what way around the wire's
's from the voltage stabiliser go to on the fuel gauge

For the Smiths instrument voltage stabiliser, terminal marked “B” is connected to the battery. Terminal marked “I” is connected to the instrument and is the 10 volt stabilised output.

On a late Minor the instrument voltage stabiliser is mounted to the back of the speedo at the top. "B" terminal receives battery voltage from a GREEN wire from the fusebox. "B" terminal is also used as a junction and 2 other green wires are connected (1 goes to the heater, the other goes to the windscreen wiper motor). "I" terminal has a LIGHT GREEN wire that goes to the fuel gauge.

Thanks for your reply the fuel gauge has two terminals which way round does the wires go

As you say, the fuel gauge has 2 terminals. 1 is connected to the instrument voltage stabiliser by a LIGHT GREEN wire to "I" terminal. The other terminal is connected to the fuel sender in the fuel tank by a GREEN/BLACK wire. The fuel sender is then connected to earth. I think you just connect the fuel gauge either way and it doesn't matter but if the fuel gauge does not work as expected, reverse the connections. Often fuel gauge problems are caused by a bad earth at the fuel tank sender end. The instrument voltage stabiliser is very reliable but they do wear out eventually.

Hi just tested the voltage stabiliser 12v one side 1.3 on the other needs a new one

Ok. The replacements are polarity sensitive as they are electronic. The originals are not polarity sensitive because they are electromechanical. Make sure you buy the right polarity unit or find a new old stock one. They do turn up often.
