Hi, can anyone tell me what RS means with this number on a 1275 engine I have just acquired. Full number 8G180RS57900, thanks Geoff

The highest 8G number I can find for a 1275 is 8G174. No 8G180 or RS in any number, maybe something to do with reconditioned.

8G was the prefix for all A Series reconditioned units.
Some sources state that ....

'The code after was to do with re-bore/re-grind sizes and a job number.'

Thanks for your help, it is confusing to say the least, especially as the block hasn't been skimmed, still the original markings on it and standard bores. The crank is also standard bearing sizes. 2" mains and 1 5/8" big ends. But it's all looking good so new rings and shells and away we go. Cheers and happy Christmas.
