DIY Traveller Towbar

Post by curruthurs »

Hi, Does anyone have the design/measurements for a traveller towbar so I can fabricate/weld one? I've given up trying to find a second hand one or even new! Thanks, Happy Moggieing

Sadly the answer is likely never as the sole surviving manufacturer (Watling Engineering) of towbars for the Minor closed down in 2020 (a real shame as their after sales support was excellent).

Charles Ware tended to get a few in regularly for purchase (and they didn't charge more than Watling did direct, while ESM added a good whack of money to the price - which is why my Saloon towbar came from CW) but again, another company that closed down.

Motorhomes are also affected as Watling were the go-to place for custom tow bars for them too, the one suggestion I found online for a manufacturer (for motorhomes) who may be able to make one up for the Minor is:
https://motorhometowbarslancashire.co.uk/

Failing that, message people selling Travellers with towbars and no bids on eBay and ask if they'll sell the towbar seperately,or send you the dimensions.

Edit:

I just found that a year ago this company:
https://www.lincolntowbarcentre.co.uk/
Bought all the rights to Watlings' motorhome towbars to continue making them, maybe they will know if anyone owns the rights to the classic car towbars or if they temselves could make up a Watling style Traveller towbar for you.

Funnily enough they're just down the road from RimmerBros who also sell classic car parts - they're both missing an opportunity there !

Must be quite unusual to sign your cars (I presume) name onto a towbar, as an aside, you're quite lucky that came up, usually this is what we get:
