Speedometer

Post by AndyC »

I am gradually renovating my 1959 Morris Minor saloon and the speedo needs replacing as the milometer doesn't work and the speedo sticks amd jumps and over reads, I will also replace the cable.
My current speedo is an SN4477/00 1504 however refurbished one on ESM website is SN4407/00 1504 - is that a direct replacement?
Thank you in advance

Hello Andy
I will have a go at answering.
My impression is that there is a very large number of part numbers for speedos and it is often difficult to see why they differ. I think that in some cases there is no practical difference.
As you will be aware, the main issue is ensuring that the TPM figures match -- which in this case they do. Do they display the same maximum speed? Then you need to ensure that the fuel gauges are both the stabiliser/non-stabiliser type. Next, you need to ensure that all the indicator lights match. Finally, the colour of the dials need to match (gold or black) If you get a match for all these, then you can safely ignore the difference in part numbers.
