Reostat faulty.(Getting very hot)

63 4 door with the round heater, I put a new reostat in middle of last year after a few month it's smoothness went and is now very graunchy.
This morning I went out and after a few Mile's I got a smell of burning. I know they get hot but this is a hot hot.
Is there a better reostat than the normal one and if so who supplies them.

You could try Clayton Classics. I would give them a ring to discuss. They sold me a replacement motor a while back and I was pleased with it. I would mention the trouble you have had with the replacement rheostat from another supplier.

It's possible that the Rheostat you fitted was not up to the job.
Where did you get it from?
Was it sold as a replacement controller for the heater motor?
A Rheostat is just a variable resistor, which slows the Fan Motor down by increasing the resistance in the over all circuit.
Which is why the Fan starts at Max Speed, and then slows down as you turn the Rheostat further from the Off Position.

The reostat was sourced from one of the main parts suppliers I can't remember which, Moss, EMS,TomRoy, so would have been up to the task.
The problem is that the quality of replacement part is woefully poor, I was asking for an alternative supplier, even an electronic one would do, as long as its up to it.

Well thats a mess, this is what I found whe I took the heater out and to pieces.

Just need a new one now.
