which carpet kit should I buy

Post by niftyrodman »

They all look about the same, but looking online is a bit guessy, As I am in Australia freight is expensive, so I need to make the right choice. Green I am after.

If you want it to look as close to the original as you can still get, then your only option is:
https://newtoncomm.co.uk/collections/4- ... 2016417843
(the pile is about 1/3 as deep as the original hessian backed carvel carpet, but it does look, from the top down, like the original).

I don't know whether your '54 model would have also had underlay, but the correct stuff in terms of my '63 car (so almost a decade later I admit) is this:
https://www.martrim.co.uk/car-trimming- ... ductId=721
(sadly I see they now sell it per meter, used to be the only supplier that did half meters, so it worked out cheaper - it's possible you may find someone selling this type of underlay closer to home).

Originals had no trim around the outside and the modern ones lack the toe pad protector on the gearbox tunnel. I have a couple of these (original) if anyone wants one.

In the '60s the footwell mat was also the BMC chocolate box, again I don't know if this or the toe pad firedrake1942 mentions would be period correct for a Series2 if that is a concern for you:
