Last week I bought this split-screen gold dash Series II. It has a 1098 engine and disc front brakes, so I thought it would work for me, but although I love the antiquity aspect ( I have had Riley RMs younger than this!) I find some of the practical aspects not suitable for my everyday commute.
It is a December 1954 2-door saloon, scruffy as hell, starts instantly(ish), runs drives and stops fine (on a 200-yard circuit of my crescent); two panels are toast (bonnet and rear offside wing) but good secondhand replacements are with it.
Many parts look recent; carb and air filter, fuel pump, loom is suspiciously unrotted, wiper motor (what you can see of it!), the Minilite wheels are in good condition and the tyres look good.
The big selling points are the lovely early-style gold dash, an impressively solid underside, and the sheer antiquity. Bad points include the scruffiness, and absence of original bits such as upholstery and the early grille. All in all a cheap way into the wonderful world of useable Series II Minordom.
I will be selling it for £2500, but if anyone wanted it a bit cheaper feel free to contact me asap as there are, er, Minor issues that I am plodding my way through; I could screech to a halt on the fettling in exchange for a reduction. I will listen favourably to part-exchange suggestions for a later Morris. As I said at the start, I still want one.....
