Hi,
Has anyone got a decent carb for sale? I'm not really looking for a new one, or an expensively refurbished one, but the one on my car is very knackered, and I'd like to try and find a serviceable replacement to keep the car on the road.
Cheers, Laurie.

Have you tried eBay?
Not meaning to appear unfriendly but a "decent" carb will mean different things to different people. Perhaps if you be more specific someone might be able to help?
Personally, I'd recommend that you buy a readily-available SU repair kit then clean and service the carb you have and make that decent. If it was running fine in the past then you can be fairly sure that it'll only need a refresh. The one on my 1000 is a HS2 (AUD13) and it appears that this carb is actually the one for an 1100.

It’s not that difficult to service an HS2 yourself with a repair kit. The only issue for DIY repairs is if the throttle spindle bushes are worn. Replacing those bushes is beyond my abilities.

Plenty of HS2 carburettors on Ebay for various prices, but you take a chance with an apparently sound unit for not much money.
I have an HS2 Aud13 carburettor which has been reconditioned with the correct SU kit as a back up for the one in use but if I sold it I would be looking for £140.

Thanks for the replies folks.
I've just refurbed the 2 carbs from my Midget and it was an awful job, quite expensive, and when I did it, I discovered that the throttle spindles were worn, which as someone pointed out, is "beyond my capabilities". I put them back anyway, and they are much better, to be fair, but not really right.
The carb I have on the Minor was running rich, and when I turned the jet nut up, after less than 1/2 a turn it was up tight. I know this isn't right, so it indicates, to me that something is badly worn and unlikely to be fixed by a service kit.
As for what "decent" means, I mean a carb from a car that was running ok, and not, presumably, horrendously worn. I'm happy to do a service kit refurb, if that's required, but new spindles are off the menu as I don't have either the kit or the expertise.
Worse, the old boy I knew who used to do up and restore SU carbs has retired and flogged off all his kit and tools.
I suppose ~ I should take this carb off and have a good look at it...
Cheers, Laurie.

Glen Watson (sucarbs.co.uk) refurbished an HS2 for me and I was very pleased with it. £160 plus postage. He included instructions and gaskets with the refurbished carburettor which was a nice touch.
