1275 enige swap

Post by Marek »

Hello.
I know, I know, this topic has been discussed hundreds of times. But the more I read about it, the more confused I get. So please, bring some clarity to my overloaded brain.
The following situation: Morris Minor Saloon 1960, 948cc engine (damaged) and already fitted rib case gearbox.
Now, I want to swap my existing 1275ccm midget engine. (Yes, the flywheel has 6 screws)
What would be the easiest way to get the beast under the bonnet?
Especially the clutch discussion dazes me.
Buying the marina clutch kit (from ESM)?
Using a 1275 midget clutch?
Using a Minor clutch
????
Thanks for your help and patience in talking about engine swapping again.
Greetings from Hamburg.

Please clarify - do you have an existing 1275cc Midget engine under the bonnet and want to replace it with a 1275cc Midget engine or do you want to replace the 948cc engine with a 1275cc Midget engine?

Oh, Sorry, It was a little bit confusing.
I want to replace my 948 engine, which is under the bonnet.

Fitting the 1275cc MG Midget engine is very easy. You just use the 1275cc Midget flywheel and clutch assembly plus the (1275cc clutch release lever if you want a hydraulic clutch) and the 1275cc carbon thrust. The pedal will be a bit heavy but that can be overcome by modifying the Minor relay shaft.

Replace the rubber bush that fits on the chassis end of the relay shaft with a poly bush.

Thank you very much.
Please let me summarise to get it right:
I fit the 1275 clutch assemble.
But I do not need to convert to the hydraulic clutch - right?
I could use the Morris Minor clutch release lever.
I could lengthen the Minor relay shaft (approx. 15mm) and use the poly bush ( I ordered it some minutes ago) to make my life easier.
Done.
Then, I can concentrate on the other problems which may come.
