Top trunnion nut

Post by MoggyMatilda »

Can anyone tell me how tight to tighten to top trunnion nut after replacing the bushes? Is there a torque setting or a rule of thumb ? Thanks

There is no torque setting specified. You just have to do it up tight and then fold over the lock washer.

Ok thanks! I tightened it as much as I’d dare, before the rubber bushing is completely squashed.

The nut has to be done up so that the flat washer is hard up against the shoulder of the pin.
The bush is supposed to be squashed.

It is obvious when you get to the end of the thread (with the washer pressed onto the shoulder) as the nut will not turn any further. Using normal hand tools it would be nigh on impossible to strip that thread.

Ok thanks, I think I’ll take another look at them & make sure they are done up properly.
