Oil pressure switch 'T'

Hello all 8)

I've been fitting some dials to Maurice and need to 'T' the oil pressure switch to fit an electric sender for the pressure gauge. I've seen various reports of it being a PITA to use a standard t-piece (such as this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B3CLTG1L), is there a better way, or do I just have to take the pain?

Sorry just rereading your post its an electrical gauge sender your fitting not a pipe so Phil ideas are better because imagine the sender is similar size to oil pressure switch and you will struggle for space

I have one fitted to my Minor.

Don’t you have to be very careful with the alignment of the hole in the banjo bolt so as not to restrict/cut off the oil flow to the oil filter? Maybe I’m being daft.

The hole is where there is an annulus ( a machined step) and oil under pressure flows through this and fills the annulus for the full 360 degrees. The oil pipe fits over this annulus area and oil flow into the pipe is completely unhindered.

Hello all.

I come back to you after a bit of a disaster :oops:

I got the oil pressure adaptor pickup as suggested further up the post. I thought I’d have a go at fitting it. Seemed reasonably simple. Reversal of removal etc.

Anyway, this is where the disaster begins.

I couldn’t get the angle correct to fit the ‘nut’ to the engine and I was conscious of not damaging the engine/thread So I thought if I were to remove it from the filter side I’d have a bit more flexibility. This worked… however when I came to refit the filter side it managed to completely mash up the double ended nut thing :oops: :x It appears as though the pipe-side thread is okay 🤞🏼

So, yes. Does anyone know what that nut thing is called? My plan is to buy a new one and try again. I’ll also change the filter incase any ‘swarf’ made its way into the hole. I think this is unlikely, but I suppose it’s good to be safe.

Note that there are two different unions.
The top union has a taper thread into the filter head and the bottom union has a parallel thread into the filter head and I have used a Dowty washer as the seal for the parallel thread.
Assemble everything loosely and when all the threads are engaged carefully tighten the threads progressively.
This could be a good time to change the filter head to a spin on/off type if not already done.

That is the part you need.
Seal the adapter into the filter head with Loctite Loc & seal. No need for PTFE tape or similar.

Well! I’ve now managed to fit all the parts, and after some trial and error nothing’s leaking (fingers crossed, still more testing to be completely sure!).

My gauge is saying I have around 2KGs at idle (which google tells me is about 30psi) :D I suspect the number can be taken with a large pinch of salt, but it’s not 0 which is something.
