Front suspension lowering

Hi all.

I have a 1958 two door saloon Minor 1000.

I would like to adjust the front suspension down not too much, just enough to give it the look I want.

I know it has torsion bar set up, but I have never worked on torsion bars.

I have followed the manual before looking at the car, hopefully over this weekend if the weather holds as I have to work outside on it.

Any helpful tips, and on reassembly being a torsion bar is this hard to get back into place, as I guess from the name, that it may be under tension as I'm trying to put it back?
Also can this be done on my own easily enough

I hope this makes sense, very amateur questions I'm guessing but hopefully get some informative answers.

If all is in good condition, then It is a simple one person job. Lack of maintenance, rust and old underseal may cause problems. Follow basic safety advice and the instructions in the manual and you should be OK. Whilst you have everything stripped down, you should consider renewing the rubber bushes - most folk have swapped to poly ones.

If you want to lower it below factory specs, I would suggest fitting smaller diameter wheels.

To reassemble yes there will be some tension. You support the lower suspension arm on a jack (as well as having the front of the car supported on axle stands and blocks of wood on the chassis rails. You must be careful not to lower too far or the dampers arms will smash the bump stops and inner wing. Personally I wouldn’t do it.
