Hi everyone, I have a 1967 Morris 1000 , she needs a new engine ! As the old engine has no identification plate and not the original, I need to be sure that it is a 1098cc as I'm worried that the manifolds oil filter etc may not fit if it should be a 998 cc and the number removed to hide that fact. Is there any visual difference between the 998 and 1098cc engines so I can tell. As I use the car every day I need to do a no problem engine change.
I live in Essex does anyone know a good place for a rebuilt engine.
Thanks in advance .
Phill

The 948cc engine block has 950 cast into the block and can be viewed below the front cam follower access cover.
The 1098cc engine should have an aluminium plate stamped 1100 attached to the block below the front cam follower access cover.

Hi I've found the aluminium plate , hidden by a breather pipe, As you see it says 1100, I presume it means that it's a 1098cc. The other mystery is something is missing on the right, could this be for an oil filter on a LHD and is missing the blanking plate, again thanks for your help.

Yes - 1098cc.
The missing thing was never there.
Some 'A' Series have a mechanical fuel pump and that is were it would be fitted. The block would be cast with a hole for the pump.
The Minor has an electric pump so did not require the hole in the block for the pump therefore does not need a blanking plate.
