Sender unit

Hi we have just got bought a 1959 traveller and fuel gauge not working ,think we need a new sender , we have seen sender units for sale says from 1960 to 71 would one of these fit mine or is there a different type can someone help regards Steve

Those dates are wrong.
There are 2 versions, Pre or Post 1964.
The introduction of the Black faced Speedometer was also when the brought in a different style of Smiths Fuel gauge, with saw the need for a 10v supply with a voltage stabiliser for the fuel gauge mounted on the back of the speedo.

Yours should look like this and they aren't available at the moment from the usual suppliers, but you might be able to clean yours up.
