Oil Pressure Warning Light

Post by Peted7202 »

The engine is out of the car after overhaul so no electrical setup. I going to test run it. How do I wire up the oil pressure switch and light to monitor the pressure on start?

Connect the battery earth terminal to the block - use clean metal for a good connection, not fresh paint!
Connect the battery non-earth terminal to one side of the lamp.
Connect the other side of the lamp to the oil pressure warning light switch.

Yes, much more useful! Idiot lights, as they are called, do not tell much of the ‘real picture’.

Pressure gauge with sender unit fitted. Engine turned with jump starter. Pressure went to just below 75 after 10 seconds and settled back to just over 60psi.

I have mixed views on gauges, I love the no hassle simplicity of the Minor, not having to worry about constantly looking at a gauge. If a light comes on, then worry, otherwise relax and enjoy. I drive another car and find myself drawn to the gauges, they always read ok but you tend to keep checking. The standard Minor engine is served well enough with a couple of warning lamps. My personal view of course ! :D
