Which poly bush goes where?

Post by Mr Spigot »

I have purchased a set of poly bushes and new rear springs from ESM and am in the process of fitting them. There are 8 red bushes and 4 blue bushes, and I notice the blue bushes have slightly narrower shoulders than the red ones. Do the blue ones go on the front pivot or the top shackle, or have I got this wrong?

Firstly the bushes should all be the same.
There is no requirement for different bushes to be fitted to the spring front eye against those of the spring shackles at the rear of the spring. BMC never fitted different bushes to the front and rear of the saloon springs.
As you have 8 red bushes I would fit them to the rear spring shackles.
The 4 blue bushes I would fit to the spring front eye.
It should be noted that the rear spring bushes are the same as those fitted to the front suspension eye even though they may be listed as different part numbers.

I fitted the ESM leaf spring kit earlier in the year and have the Red bushes in the spring eyes and the blue bushes in the rear hanger body mount. I can't recall how I came up with that arrangement but think that was the only way it would go together.

I found the front pins were a nightmare to fit, Phil was very helpful in solving that problem too.
