59 traveler 948 - Rib Case transmission rebuild

Post by cupofjoe »

quandry - suggestions 1st gear ring off the central hub problem ?
looks like a part missing from original transmission 3rd gear thrust washer ?
seems to one of these -
22A550 0.212-0.213" FRONT THRUST WASHER"
SPRITE I ONLY 9CC GEARBOX (SELECTIVE)
22A538 0.218-0.219" FRONT THRUST WASHER"
SPRITE I ONLY 9CC GEARBOX (SELECTIVE)
22A536 0.214-0.215" FRONT THRUST WASHER"
SPRITE I ONLY 9CC GE
Can't find source anywhere though -

I picked up a rebuildable ribcase - carefully documented the disassembly
replaced all the bearings, spacers etc. all gears clean surfaces good

reassembled carefully , and noticed the central hub shift motion jambs when moving to left ( tailshaft extending to right) into 1/2nd gear - when I move the gear left, the 3 detents seem to be free - the intelock pin moves freely yet the play seems to keep the interlock from allowing syncro to engage there also seems to be 50 thousandth central hub play left / right

( when I preload the hub to the right by about 50 thousandth the assembly snaps left cleanly and engages as I would expect it to)

I think i can assume I left out a spacer but alas no diagram I can find shows mesurements of this tolerance or part ( spacer ?) that would make this up

New parts:
baluk rings
new spacers
all bearings
seals/ gaskets

Hi. Perhaps you might spot an anomaly if you look at the gearbox rebuild guide that you can obtain from the Dorset Branch website.
