1957 Morris Minor 4dr

Post by MorrisJohn »

1957 Morris Minor 1000. Four door saloon, black. 948cc. Professional full restoration about seven years ago, including rebuilt engine with unleaded head. Not a perfect car but very, very good. Fair weather use since restoration.

Engine has done 18,000 miles. Electronic ignition. Reconditioned gearbox, new clutch kit, which have done around 1,000 miles. Thorough restoration. Full new floor fitted at this time, along with new petrol tank, full new chassis legs, sills, crossmembers and so on. Photographic evidence available.

This year I’ve had all brake drums replaced with new UK made ones, replaced all brake cylinders with genuine Lockheed, new brake shoes all round (Mintex), new rear brake pipes and new flexi hoses. I’ve replaced all suspension bushes front and rear with poly (except tie bar where 2 rubber ones remain for better compliance). In addition it has brand new rear springs, spring hangers and shackles (comes with an older but good set of springs as spares) and an original SU fuel pump that’s just been reconditioned. I’ve converted the oil filter to spin on so it’s easier to service. New good quality steering rack gaiters. Two new UK made lower trunnions with new old stock track rod ends. New high quality UK made FAG front wheel bearings, along with replacement of one front wheel hub with good used original.

Recently serviced, including engine oil, gearbox oil, diff oil and general greasing.

The interior is restored and good but not perfect. Headlining is excellent. It has the more comfortable slightly curved front seats from the earlier Series II.

Car drives beautifully now and is very reliable. Ready for lots of use!

I’d intended keeping this car long term, hence all the recent work and no expense spared. However the arrival of a Morris Minor Traveller, in unforeseen but welcome circumstances, forces a reluctant sale due to lack of garage space.

A bad day with my Moggy still beats a good day at work.
