Fuel

Post by les »

This business of fuel going off ——- over what period of time——- does anyone have a rough idea ? I’ve not used my van for quite a while but not keen on flushing the tank if I don’t need to. It would have E5 at the moment.

I don't have a technical answer but my car was laid up for 18 months and started first time on the fuel in the tank.

conversely, I was helping a pal to get his 1948 standard running last month. It wouldn't fire at all but everything checked out OK, spark, fuel, air and compression. After some head scratching we tried some fresh petrol from a temporary supply, fired and ran perfectly first time. Back to the fuel in the tank and it wouldn't fire at all.

Drained out the fuel and it had gone orange and didn't smell right. 3 months old!

Thanks for the replies, my van starts fine, I wasn’t sure if on the road it might play up. Maybe a couple of gallons added to what’s in the tank might be wise.
