That seems a complete contradiction of what you told us in your first post when you said the previous owner had this same problem and replacing the fuel pump had not cured it :-?

You can perform a flow test with the pump and see how much fuel is pumped during a given time.

It is, yes. I must have picked him up wrong when we spoke a few days ago :-( . Certainly throws a different light on things.

SOLVED!

Having changed the fuel pump for a reconditioned unit from club spares it’s like driving a different car. Many thanks to club sparesman.

Acceleration is smoother and more brisk. Whilst I don’t want to jinx, it the car has just completed a test run at 60-65mph for 15-20 minutes without any issues whatsoever.

Note: (I also checked the float chamber for signs of gunk/sediment in fuel but all appears clean as a whistle). I will now recondition my old pump to keep as a spare.
