Leaking Nipples

Post by Bob the dog »

Hi, I have just replaced the master cylinder on my minor and after bleeding the brakes, the nipples on the rear were leaking. So I replaced the nipples and they still leaked, so I replaced the brass banjos and they still leaked. I have now tightened a bit more every day for last week and they are better but still weeping fluid.

Has anyone any suggestions?

Thanks Jon

The only means of sealing the nipples is the angular face contact between the banjo nipple seat and the nipple seat.
There is no other means of sealing between the two.
It appears that the seats of the banjo and nipple are incompatible.
I would try the old nipples in the new banjos and see how that works out.

Thank you.
The old nipples are the same as the new ones but looking on ESM the front and rear nipples are different, the front nipples are more pointy
I replaced like for like and I am now thinking the original ones were wrong so have ordered some new ones.

The front and rear brake bleed nipples are not interchangeable. Front nipple Pt No: 27H7166. Rear nipple Pt No: 3H2426.
Make no attempt to fit the rear to the front or front to rear. You will only damage the nipple/banjo and nipple/banjo threads which could lead to brake failure.
