Indicator stalk warning light problem

Post by FranR »

Hi all,

I'd be grateful for advice on this: the warning light (Traveller 1971) doesn't come on, but flasher unit clicks and indicators work ok.
Changed bulb (yes, tested it and ok) but problem persists.
What could cause this and what can cure it?

With thanks for your thoughts,
Fran

This could be one of two problems. As long as you are sure that the miniature bulb is making good contact in its holder on the end of the stalk, you should check all connections (make sure the wire ends are properly pushed into the black through connectors) where the stalk plugs into the main wiring loom under the dashboard. The wire you want is coloured light green. Do this with the indicators on so you can see the stalk bulb.
If it still doesn’t work after this, go to the flasher unit terminal marked P, switch the indicators on, and with a small 12v panel bulb make a connection between the P terminal and an earth point in the engine bay. If the test bulb flashes then the flasher unit is working and the fault lies somewhere in the wiring. If the test bulb doesn’t flash with the indicators then you need a new flasher unit.

Is the horn working?

+ 1 for JowettJavelin's suggestions. When you pull out the wiring , clean up the pin on the flasher ( marked P ) and the bullets on the flasher wiring.
A good " polish " with sand paper or emery cloth will ensure you have a decent electrical connection. Make sure the wire itself hasn't been
compromised / pinched / damaged along it's length.
