What does the painted on letter D mean on the bulk head, it looks original to the car, It is on a 803 cc split screen which i have pretty much purchased yesterday.

From memory there were also 'S' stencils which it is suggested stood for 'Synobel' / 'Synthetic' paint and I spotted this one at Capel Manor (NLMMMOC) a few weeks ago, which I am told designated 'E' for Export. (Series III Clarendon Grey, 2 door Saloon).

'E' must be the economy version.
Looks to be a Lucas charging coil by the 'E'.

Export S11's had "EX" prefixed alloy tags screwed to vin plate, presume "E" stencil replaced it(?).
E = Economy varient(?).
