Laygear circlips
Any tips please. I am trying to remove the circlips that retain the bearings in the laygear in a late gearbox. Annoyingly the ends are cut square and they defy picking out. Any suggestions welcome.

Re: Laygear circlips
Have you tried snap ring pliers not circlip pliers such as

Re: Laygear circlips
Thanks Bill.
I had not seen those before. Clearly very useful for the external clips on the main shaft bearings.
My problem however is with the internal clips in the end of the layshaft. These are in a bore of about 20mm diameter.

Re: Laygear circlips
I can sympathize with you - they can be a devil to remove.
If you are careful you can grind the circlip at its centre and bend it and remove it.
The later layshaft bearings are slightly longer and do not require the outer circlip to be re-fitted.

Re: Laygear circlips
Clip and seal picks can also help and not expensive

Re: Laygear circlips
Thanks to all.
I was reluctant to attack the clips with a Dremel for fear of catching the bearing surface.
However that was the answer and easier than anticipated.
Thanks again.
