Underside rust protection

Post by Researchingreg »

I recently acquired a Traveller and the underside seems to be protected with a bubbly black material probably sprayed on can anyone tell me what it is? See photo

Some kind of underseal? Many different types have been available over the years. Some better than others! Some owners like it, others do not and choose to remove it. Best to keep an eye on it and ensure it doesn't dry out, crack and flake off. Covering it with a waxy or oily rust preventative is probably best.

Thanks for the information. So I would have to spray some undersea on, on a regular basis then, Some bits of the body work have some rust in places you can't see normally. But it is not bad.

Looks like standard body schutz aka underseal. It needs re-treating from time to time. It can get thin or split and allow water to get underneath it. Definitely worth treating any rusty areas and then recoating with underseal.
