tool hunting

Post by nutsandbolts »

Car boot season is starting, a good place to top up your tool collection. Car boot sales are the best place to find your imperial tools for very little outlay.

Tips;

Take an old strong carrier bag with you when you are walking round. Take some wet wipes to clean your hands after rummaging in the boxes of rusty stuff,

Look under the tables in the old boxes of rusty items.

Only buy good named spanners, old British, American, Swedish and German are usually good.

Get a collection of box spanners these are very handy, and can reach where other spanners can't

If you are looking through a big box of tools pick out a selection which you want before asking the price, it is best to be polite when making an offer, such as how much can this lot be? Rather than I will give you (price)

Also look for good quality screwdrivers (not worn) get lots of sizes, a good fitting screwdriver should not damage the screw you need to loosen.

You can usually pick up single items for 50p-£1, job lots are cheaper.

Good hunting, most of my tools have been found on car boot's
the most unreliable part of a car is the nut holding the steering wheel!

Good advice, I got my tools the same way, one or two from the Second World War.
