VIN & Chassis number

Post by Oilymog »

Could someone tell me for sure if the VIN plate number & the stamped in Chassis number should be the same on late 50's minor?

The chassis number on the aluminium plate screwed onto the bulkhead should be repeated (JUST the numbers, not the prefix letters) stamped into the bulkhead panel itself a few inches away. This number will be 6 digits long on a car of that age.
There will also be another screwed on plate, painted over, high up on the other side of the bulkhead. This is the body number which will be different.
