ignition problems

Post by aza12 »

Hi
I'm waiting for a new fuel pump but while I wait, I thought ill check the ignition, I'm getting no spark off the spark plugs or from the lead that goes from the coil, iv changed the dizzy cap, condenser and points and the rotor arm still no luck, anyone?

Check for current through the coil. If the contact points actually open and the current remains constant at 3-4A, odds are that you have mistakenly wired the coil to earth at the contact points. Slight chance that the condenser is phut. if no coil current, coil is either open circuit or the supply is broken/not connected.

How have you checked the spark from the coil. You should not be using the points for this - just connect/disconnect the coil with a jump lead to earth.

Yes, if you carry out 'oliver90owner's test and you do then get a spark from the king lead, the set-up or a component in the dizzy is likely wrong in some way.

tested the coil with a multi reader on 200 ohms, across the termainals reading 3.0

then measured terminal, to the where the king lead goes on 20k ohms reading 7.85

is that good or bad lol

thanks

That is not a sensible description. Just earthing the king lead tells us nothing
